I'm fixing a computer for a friend. He said his computer froze and had to turn the computer off with the power button. When he turned the computer back on the screen said Detecting IDE Drives... but then after 5 minutes it goes blank. It does not reponsed to DEL or F11. I would normally figure the hard drive crashed and is done, however, i switch his hard drive out and put it into another computer and that computer reconized his hard drive. I put his hard drive back in his computer and it worked fine. I restarted the computer and I was back to the old Detecting IDE Drives screen again. Any hope in saving this hard drive?

Reset BIOS to factory defaults and try a different IDE Cable.

I had a similar problem evenly the hard drive would not work at all. I believe it is component this failing best bet is get a new drive and install the operating system on it. Then see if you can slave the drive and get you data off it. This may take a few tries since the old drive not be recognize first time out. I also tried different cable but to no avail, it just stopped one day and that was it for it. Never say Never Romeo Void Firefox 1.5.0.8 A Safer Browser Thunderbird 1.5.0.8
