Make sure your logon has Admin rights to begin with. Were the user files deleted manually prior to attempting to delete the user account?
If you right click My Computer and select manage, it will open the computer management window. From there, look for local users and groups. Expand users and in the right pane window you will find all user accounts listed. Highlight the user name then right mouse click on the user name, select delete.

FishTricks, how were you attempting to delete the accounts? If you weren't doing it the way Sys said, that explains the errors. Don't forget to delete the profiles as well.
