I have an item (program) in my Add/Remove programs which was uninstalled manually since no uninstaller was provided, but cannot get rid of it and there is no way to remove it. I went to edit the rigistry here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
, but I cannot find it by going through all the entries and looking at their DisplayNames. I found all except the one I want to remove. How can I find it and remove it? Help appreciated.

The entries under Add-Remove Programs are not always found in the key you mentioned in the Windows Registry. Look elsewhere in the registry.

To do so, open regedit (go to Start/Run and type regedit, and click once on My Computer at the top left of the left pane).

Then go to Edit / Find, type the entry exactly as it appears in Add-Remove Programs in Control Panel (respect any spaces, periods and punctuation marks just as they appear in the list), and start a search.

When you find the first match, delete it, minimize the Registry Editor window and check the list in Add-Remove Programs in Control Panel. If the entry is still there, press F3 in the Regedit Window to go on searching. Keep deleting all other entries for the program you removed as long as they match the search exactly, one by one. Reopen Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs to see if the reference is still there. You may stop searching the Registry once the entry disappears from the Add-Remove list.

Good luck.
Juan

G'day Dado, if you go back to the Add/Remove applet again and select the progam's 'remove' [knowing that it already has been] you might get a dialog to say it can't find the program and it should then ask you if you want the entry removed as well and it should delete the entry from there.

This happens to me occassionally even after removing a program via this applet.
