Comment: Hi, Everything was fine until i downloaded the new firefox 3 and installed it. bI had checked the option " set firefox as my defaul browser". I already had firefox 2 and had not uninstalled it. Since then i am not able to connect to net through firefox or through internet explorer which was already installed. But net connection is fine as i am able to connect to net using Skype and itunes. I am also able to browse using firefox when i load Ubuntu. I think some setting in Windows was changed during installation of new firefox but i am not able to find. It shows 'this page cannot be loaded' message appears when i try to load any page in Windows. I have a broadband connection . Can someone please help

Reply: (edit)Another possibility is that your antivirus and/or firewall has detected a change in Firefox. While in firefox, do an alt tab and see if there is a window in the background from your firewall or antivirus warning you that Firefox is trying to connect to the internet. You may need to give it permission again since most good AV programs detect when a program has changed.

Reply: (edit). I typed alt-tab and nothing happened. I ran ping and ipconfig and the result i am posting bellow. I see that the ip address of the wireless and LAN are different. Is that the problem ? How do i change it ? Reply: (edit)Try two things. Open the browser and type http://192.168.1.1 Press enter. Does the router interface open. Login with the default usr/pass and see what the status is and what the DNS IPs are. You can also try a static IP address and use the DNS of the ISP. Your router's IP is listed as the DNS. Since I use static IP addresses, I don't remember if that's correct or not.

Reply: (edit)I was hoping to see if the router was showing the external IP address where it says connected. In any case, are you posting from another PC on the same network? If you are then we can eliminate the router and the modem as the problem. The second thing was, I wanted to give your PC a static IP address but I need to know the DNS of your ISP. Is your ISP sancharnet.in? If not who is it?

Reply: (edit)Hi I am posting from the same computer . I just load Ubuntu ( I have dual boot , Ubuntu and Windows Xp). Everything works well with ubuntu.Problem comes only when i load Windows , I am not able to brows with firefox or internet explorer. But I can chat ( including voice chat ) with skype or yahoo on Windows !!!! No problem at all. Kaspersky updates without any problem. So the problem is not with the modem or connection. I am using BSNL broadband and the service provider is dataone.in. In ubuntu the Ip address is 192.168.1.3, Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0 , Gateway is 192.168.1.1, DNS servers are 218.248.255.145 and 218.248.240.23 . Configuration is - static ip address

Reply: (edit)Hi It is working again ! I changed the static address and tried to open firefox. In the mean time kaspersky had updated . When i started firefox again kaspersky asked if the program should be allowed. I said yes and it started loading !!! Then i changed back to automatic ip address mode and it is still working . Praise God !! I want to thank you all who graciously helped me to solve this problem. I was in real difficulty. Thank you Boaster, Wombat and Guapo. I must thank you, Guapo especially for being patient with me and helping me through the repeated postings.
