One thing to check is whether or not you also have Windows Messenger running on your machine. It's built into XP and you might not even know it is running. If your computer is automatically signing you into Windows Messenger at startup, then you will not be able to sign in to MSN Messenger using the same account. If you find that this is the case, simply disable the built-in Windows Messenger.

I am also having a problem connecting to msn messenger 6.1, only under Windows 2000 Pro. I sometimes get a message telling me it can't connect because i have a firewall or sometimes it sais it's just because of the service or my internet connecting. I do not have a firewall by the way. I also can't connect to any msn related websites(on msn groups i get this: http:///%20groups.msn.com/). Does anyone have any idea why i am having these problems?

Josh
