Comment:
tried to connect a TDK cd-rw externally by using a USB-IDE adapter. had two existing cd-rom drives on Secondary IDE ( 1 dvd-rw and 1 dvd-rom ) Just c't work if I connect externally the TDK cd-rw - My Winxp will "hang" at the " black entering windows screen ". I was thinking maybe my old motherboard - P3 VIA Apollo Pro 13 is not compatible with Intel USB 2.0 ports. Any ideas why? Tks

Disconnect your other two CD drives. Then, try again.

Whoops... sorry for the lack of detail. I meant to say to physically (cables & power) to the both CD drives. That way your computer will only be looking at one drive, instead of 3. It's, at the very least, a diagnostic step to see if the drive/port/cable etc. could be bad or not. If XP recognizes your USB drive after you've unplugged your other two drives, then you know it's "physically" ok.
