I bought my pc in spain and have everything in spanish. I've been to "control panel", "languages" etc and changed to english but it effects nothing. What do i need to tell this thing.

I am not sure it this would work, but it's worth the try.
You should have you COA/product key on the side cover of the PC, depending on what spanish version of XP that you got from Spain, I recommend having someone burn you an english copy of the exact version and reinstall it using your key.

Hi antony "discobolus", Badboy, Bryco, Sabertooth, hi everyone
I have been quiet for a long time and stepping outside my territory right now, Bryco knows :-), and I don't like to be the one bringing bad news but wanted to have this said to safe you a lot of time and irritation;
With Windows XP Home Edition, there is no way to change the language of the OS (Windows, Menus, Icons etc.).
With Windows XP Pro Edition, you are able to switch between languages providing you have originally installed the English version and afterwards installed other language packs.
To install other languages on top of the English version you would need Windows MUI which is only available through volume licensing programs. See http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/DrIntl/faqs/MUIFaq.mspxAs for installing a English copy of WinXP "over the top", maintaining the (program)settings etc., of the existing Spanish version, forget it... :-(
I have tried a similar thing today; English over a existing Dutch installation.Booted with a English version and setup started fine and discovered the existence of a Windows folder, setup than told me that if I wanted to install WinXP (English) in the same folder "C:\Windows" it would first need delete the contents of the current Windows folder, which it did (including all (uninstall)MS updates) when I continued still hoping to keep the user account, (program)settings etc...
So to go short... Bryco is once again right on top of it. :-)
And to add to Bryco's post, you will have to start all over as far as Windows is concerned. I haven't yet tested the originally installed programs to see which of them are still running after the "reinstall".Best Regards and Wishes,

Thank you all for your input. Looks like I'll just have to improve my Spanish. Ho Hum. Difficult enough for me to understand tech stuff in English. Thanks to the count for the indisputable depressing truth.

@ the count or mesich
Are you sure a repair install of XP via an identical "english version" copy will not work ?
Seems to me that it should work, though I'm not 100% sure since I have not done it or heard from anyone that did.

Thing is I've got to find that person with english xp.and how do you get it burned cause everythings pre-installed these days. I'll try - and reply if any success.

"...indisputable depressing truth."
Sorry... :-((I would have preferred to bring you a real easy solution, would have been easier for me too, I need to set up one computer to be able to "speak" in Dutch (original) and Chinese and another one in Chinese (original) and Dutch or English. But as far as I have been able to find out (for now), experienced, there is no other way as to start all over with Windows in English (loosing all (program)settings, user accounts etc.) and afterwards install the additional languages.
"Looks like I'll just have to improve my Spanish."
Ditto here, for other reasons though. :-)"Are you sure... ...will not work ?"
No, I am not sure nor can I be as far as I am concerned.
I haven't tried the repair install of XP (English) over the existing installation (Dutch). :-/
Identical? What about the installed MS updates/hotfixes/SP's on the existing installation?Best Regards and Wishes,

Windows updates and Service Packs are undoubtedly going to go away after the repair install that I'm sure we all know, but everthing else stays intact.
