Guys,
Been having issues with my DVD Writer , I Have a Toshiba ODD-dvd sd-r6252 x2.4 i have brought Some memorex DVD+R x1-4 Discs but it will not write to them , Am i meant to have x2.4 discs only? On the memorex jewel case it states that people with x2.4 dvd writers should upgrade their firmware to support x4 even though it wont write at that speed. However there is not a firmware update for this type of Writer yet. I have looked all over the place for x2.4 dvd+r discs but cannot find anywhere that sells them. Does anyone have any advice? as i have only just brought my Notebook ( compaq Presario R3000 ).
Kind Regards
GR

speed isnt an issue
if you have 4x write, but using 1x disc, then you will get 1x speed max, an vise verser
your DVD write can only write to - discs
their are writes out their that can write to either, like my one. unlucky mate

the speed thing is right. Buy good hardware lg and plextor are quite good drives, don't know ifthey make them for the laptop though.
Use maxell discs (when tape decks where cool, they made really good decks which required really good tapes some of these cassettes were $20-maxell was one of three recommended names) , plus you have to watch the capability of the drive and discs. Some combo drive are only dvd read - movies and stuff will not burn dvd, plus smoe drives have the +,- and all that you ahve to follow too!Compaq, gateway, hp, and sony all make computer that cannot be customized. These boxes contain weird parts and altered pieces which sometimes are impossible to trouble shoot. E.g Sony makes some vaio's with a mainboard that is made by asus - a good name motherboard, but has it altered to meet sony specifics. People usually don't care to know except when they want to upgrade and then are mad cause it to hard or costly.
They companies repackage cheaper goods and sell them for "different" prices.
Out of all the dics I have used Memorex has given me the most trouble and their cd-r are priced higher than generics that won't.
