I recently purchased a Dvr-A09XL dvd-rw drive. I cannot copy cd-r, or dvd-r disks. In both programs the burn process starts but the device stops writing after a few percent and the program will either complete or freeze with the end result of only a small amount of data written and the cd ruined. I have used the Ulead application as well as Nero 6. I also updated the firmware of the device and downloaded aspi 4.71.2, the driver version is by Microsoft version 5.1.2535.0. Have tried turning off imapi service and still no resolve. System is windows xp. Please assist with this situation.

Uninstall the other 2 & try one of these, both free.

SILENTNIGHT MICRO CD BURNER
Ever wanted a CD-burner that doesent need any installation, and uses about 730 kb of space? Well here you go. This little fellow lets you select folders to burn, and you can filter out only the files you want. Excelent choice for easy backup, and best of all, it fits easy on a single floppy disk and its completely free.

I hope you're not using budget minded blank media, as some burners do not work well with the cheapest media you can find.
Sometimes your results can be attributed to the quality of the blank media that you use. I experimented a bit and found my Plextor burner loves Maxell media. In fact, on the Plextor website they recommend Maxell media too.
Maybe you could try checking the manufacturer's website and see if there is a recommended media listed there for your burner.~Tommyo
