When I start/reboot the system, it displays "boot from cd" but it does not display "press any key" it just bypasses and continues to load XP. Any Ideas?

Have you pressed a key at the "Boot from CD" prompt anyway to see if that worked?

Try disconnecting the harddrive and see if you can get it to boot the CD. Is this CD an original or a copy?

Thanks for the responces.

I have pressed keys when "boot from cd" was displayed, changed boot order over and over, and have disconnected the hardrive.

It is an original copy of the disc.

"It is an original copy of the disc.

From the way it's acting. I would say that it's 'not' a legal MS CD,or even a good copy.

It doesn't appear to be a bootable CD. That is assumming your CD drive is functional.

What happens with the harddrive disconnected?
Do you get a boot error such as "insert system disk" ? Does it just hang?

I have seen this happen on an old Dell computer...the BIOS had to be updated before it would boot to the CD and start set-up.

Does it do this with every bootable CD you try?

RE: (response 9) "I have seen this happen on an old Dell computer...the BIOS had to be updated before it would boot to the CD and start set-up."

Gosh if u could help me out here, it'd be much appreciated. I've got a (relatively) old dell laptop (about 6 years old) and it wont let me boot from the CD. How can i update BIOS? After rearranging boot order to boot from CDrom first, it still loads windows directly without the prompt to boot from CD (no press any key to boot from CD._ screen). The XP CD i'm using came with my computer so i'm fairly certain it's legit. What can i do to get BIOS to successfully allow my computer to boot from the cd so i can wipe out my current partitions and start with fresh unpartitioned space and a squeaky clean computer?

i thought technology made our life easier....
