Comment:

I just bought a celeron 1.7ghz, 128mb PC for our office. The problem it only gives me the option to add the computer to a workgroup and not a domain. I gave the domain name as the workgroup name and it works. The only problem is whenever I try to connect to a server in the domain I have to enter the username, password etc to get in. It is very irritating. How can I make my computer a memeber of the domain and login when I start up as I do in win2k so that I dont have to enter the authentication info everytime I try accessing the network.

More clearly...

If you have Windows XP Home Ed., you cannot join it to a domain. What you can do, though, is create a user on the server and map the drives from the XP-Home computer. It will pop up asking for username and password, then the user can enter it to gain access to network drives. You could also create a script that provides the username and password so that it will not prompt when it tries to map the drives. If you do not feel like doing that, just have the user enter the username and password at the prompt to make the connection.
