Cannot Access the Internet

Specs: Windows XP, 1gb
Cannot access windows firewall or connect to internet. Removed virus with Microsoft Essentials and now I cannot access the internet and my firewall is inoperative. System restore is not working. Is repair an option? Dell PC.

With some problems it's often useful to know which service pack you have, as that determines the method of fixing it.

I don't know which service pack you have on your XP, but this may help:
