Hi,

For the past week or so all of the sudden I couldn't log onto hotmail, msn or any other secure web page. I formatted three times and the problem started occuring on windows 98 then I went to XP pro and the problem occured. I have installed IE 6.1 with all service packs and have installed the fixes on microsoft.com. The problem occurs in all browsers ie, mozilla, opera. I have enabled ssl 2 and 3. All these services work on all the other computers on my network. I have lowered all security settings but the problem persists. Can anyone help?

Thanks

https works on another port than http which is 80. I can't remember what one but I suspect that a port or group of ports have been blocked.

Do I need to open a certain port in order to allow these pages to load? What port? Why would this happen suddenly because It alll of the sudden occured?

Thanks

There are two issues I would look at for your problem. One being, your security settings, to high can cause it not to open secure web sites. Two being, a winsock error, which can easily be fixed. Have you tried either of these?
Good luck

I too all of a sudden cannot access any secure website. I have checked and double-checked all of the suggested fixes, security settings too high, enabling SSL 2.0, 3.0 etc. What the hell is going on?
I'm running XP Sp1 with IE6 Sp1, latest version Q831167. Help!!!

Re-registering the softpub.dll (dynamic link library) :

start—run—type “regsvr32 softpub.dll” (without quotes) and wait for the OK message; then try again.

I have had the same problem today, but I thought about it and realised the last thing I did was install the latest Norton Antivirus updates. I've restored my pc to before this and now its all working fine again?

i am experiencing this problem as well. I have checked all security settings and made sure that my certificate is still valid. I registered softpub.dll (it said registration successful) and tried restoring my computer to a time when it did work. This is very irritating because i do all of my banking online, and i am now unable to do so. I have the latest version of IE and am running XP home. If anybody finds someway to fix this pleaes update or email asap!!! thanks

Has anyone found a resolution to this issue?

I'm been going crazy searching the web trying to find a fix.
It seems like many many people are having this issue, but I can't seem to find a definitive solution.
I've tried everything recommened, checked all IE settings, deleted cookies, etc.
I've even went as far as completely reinstalling Win XP Pro SP1 and I get the same results.
I simply cannot access any secure web pages...

PLEASE HELP, Anyone...
Thanks...

I started having this same problem about a week ago. I had already enabled ssl1 and ssl2. In firewall settings-advanced-network connection settings, secure web server in services is checked. Is there some other place where port 443 can be closed but is listed here as opened or enabled. I can't think of anything else that may solve it. Please help...
