I want to use a ghost image from a desktop on a laptop. I have had issues doing this, does anyone know if this will work? Looks like driver issues from before - just wanted to know if there was a work around.
Desktop Administrator

I haven't tried this but, I've heard from other IT Professionals that it works.
Put the image on the desktop and uninstall all drivers. Save the image after all drivers have been removed. When you image the laptop, XP will detect all hardware and allow you to put the correct drivers in.
Like I said, I haven't tested it yet but others that I would trust have told me it works.

it wont work. the only time that it will work is if you restore the drive into an identical box of the original.
google "winPE" it's a really good method of doing what you're asking do. it'll allow you to make an image of your machine, plus burn the drivers for the machine(s) you will be installing to plus load the software. sort of a shortcut for us techs. well actually we use the OPK cd's these days but for you home based people use winPE.
here's a link that should help:

Yes it will work, we have done it hundreds of times here at work on many different desktops as well as laptops. Do the following and you should be good to go.
IDE Drives - change to generic
Under Computer - change to ACPI
Go to view, devices by connection ACPI> PCI Buss - un-install
Delete sound, NIC, Video drivers.
