I have had IE7 for a while now and worked fine but I decided to download and install IE8 from the official Microsoft website, my computer met all the requirements and I therefore went ahead with installing it. On doing so, now, I cannot open any pages in the Windows IE8 browser, even trusted websites such as Google and other mainstream travel websites and the like. The error message I get is "Internet Explorer Cannot Display The Webpage", I have done the Diagnose connection problem and it is fine, no errors there. I have also cleaned my system up just in case. McAfee window popped up a few times inquiring if I wish to give this particular server access re: Windows Explorer.exe outbound access and I accepted and granted full access as it is all above board. I have also logged off and re-started my computer a few times, as you do when a new programme or application is installed and was hoping that the problem would sort itself out. I have followed most simple steps to rectify this problem but still don't seem to be able to. I am on a Dial-up connection (don't laugh! AOL - long story..!), anyhow, I have just noticed near my usual Dial Up connection in the "Networks Connection" folder that, another connectivity folder now present, which I didn't have before! It is called "Internet (2) WAN Miniport (ATW)" And it says 'connected' just like my Dail-up. Even if I disconnect it, it quickly reconnects, not sure why. Could this new thing (drive) be causing the problems? Also, I have removed the Ad-ons by following the simple instructions, so I'm pretty sure that it can't just be that, if at all. Can anyone help! I have a good DELL system with lots of memory! I am a little worried to remove IE8 and reinstall IE7, however am willing to do this, if absolutely necessary - please advice. Oh, I am using Windows XP, Service pack 3. Thank you for your time. Renee

I think you should un-install IE 8 and then re-install it. See if this "extra connection" goes away when you un-install IE 8.

That miniport connection is probably a wireless one. Since IE8 is still in Beta, you should uninstall it. It's too unstable.

Yep I second Jennifer - Get rid of it. The site you are trying to load is probably among the 2,4000 major sites (M$ included) known to be incompatible with IE8. Click on the link below for the sites identified.

Hi there. Marty, Jennifer and XPUser. I have replied to the first two replied but it doesn't seem to appear above here. Anyways, I shall uninstall IE8 but as I had indicated on my previous (now missing!) reply, I had suddenly yesterday encountered problems with loading the webpage with IE7 and hence had decided to download IE8 for a faster and new experience and I also thought it might get rid of the IE7 problem at the same time! Any thoughts about what maybe wrong with the IE7 then? Can't seem to get that one to work either, I get the same message i.e. "Internet Explorer Cannot Display The Webpage" - Thank you all for your help and guidance. :-)
