HI

I have windows xp pro and some of my hardware like my scanner and stuff do not work with windows xp. They worked with windows 98 and i want 98 back.
I have a fat32 drive.
Is there anyway to get windows 98 back, i dont care if its dual boot or anything, but i would like it dual booting.

Anyway wouldnt matter.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you're willing to re-partition your drive, here's an intelligent dual-boot setup for you:

Partition your drive into 2 partitions. Install Windows 98SE first on the second partition; then install Windows XP on the first partition. When (if) your hardware manufacturers release XP drivers, you'll simply be able to boot into WinXP, modify your boot.ini file with Notepad, and delete the Windows 98 OS files on the second partition--no hassles, and no data loss from the second partition other than the Win98 OS files.

It would be worthwhile to get Partition Magic for your partitioning so you would not lose any data.

With it, you can "split" your existing partition and once that is done, create another partition for your Win98 installation.

Partition Magic comes with "Boot Magic" and it is a really good boot manager. Also, the manual is pretty decent.

I did not know what I was doing but after reading the manual a few times and setting up my plan for partitioning etc. went ahead and successfully did it.

I had the same problem that you do. That is, not all of the programs and devices that I wanted, and in some cases needed, would work under XP so had to have Win98 and wanted to have XP. Dual booting is the answer to that dilema.

Leave the XP in and download Windows 2000 drivers for your scanner etc. from the manufacturer of your device. I had the same problem after upgrading from Win98se to XP. Nothing would work. Windows 2000 drivers fixed it. Good luck.
