I'm trying to install XP Pro and it get's about 78% complete then I get an blue screen which stops the install. It says that it cannot copy this file to my hard drive because it's not the correct image. The file is (Tracerpt.exe) I know what the file does, cause I have looked it up. I just don't know what to do now.I have tried everything. Reformatted the HD, everything. I have even tried other XP cd's. And also other operating systems with no luck. Can someone please help me on this??????????!!!!!!!

Is it Tracerpt.exe or Tracert.exe? If its the other then maybe it has something to do with network card or something close to that.

YOu have tryed other windows versions and get the same error on the same file??

I would make sure there is no (i forget what exactly thier names are but) the older bioses had to install a proggy to enable large disk support...maybe look for that...otherwise i would try diskdoctor look for bad spots? post again with more detail about what happens with the other windows os installs.

Yes...it's tracerpt.exe, and the exact error messege I'm getting is... tracerpt.exe was not copied correctly. The file setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid Windows XP system image.

And then when I tried Windows 2000, I get the same error messege except this time it's this file...(MFC40.dll)

And with Windows 98se, again....same error messege but with this file....(symh.dll)

I did replace the mobo and cpu, with an K7T Turbo2 mobo and a AMD Athlon xp 2000+ cpu. I know they are installed correctly, and the Bios has been setup correctly. But I have not updated it for a couple reasons...one is I have no O.S. installed on that computer, and two is...I didn't think I needed to, since I just bought the mobo and cpu three day ago....brand new. Now what should I do?????????

Does it give you an option to skip the file by hitting Escape and continue Setup? If so, XP would be installed and probably those files will be found in the system later, I have seen that at friends.

Yes it does give me that option...and I tried it once to just skip that file and when it did, it installed a little more then totally crashed. But thanx for the input anyways.
