Hi Everyone;
I could really use some advice on a dilemma I'm dealing with at the moment. First....everytime I go into "My Documents" and open any of the files I have in there, like...My Music, My Pictures, and so on....I would say 8 times out of 10 I get an error screen that pops up and says that Windows Explorer has had an error and can't continue, and it will be shutting down. Which it does. It has been doing this for close to 3 weeks now, and progressivly getting worse. (Meaning it is happening more often than not now.) I keep my computer defragged, and I also do Disk Cleanup on a regular basis. Put it this way...I'm keeping my computer maintained properly...or so I thought. I even reformatted my HD, thinking it might cure the problem by just starting over again. But it still happens. I have ran Virus Scans on my system, along with Trojan Hunting Software, and all come up negative.
Now I'm finding that my system is running slower than normal too. My computer used to be pretty fast, and running great up until a few weeks back. Now it's slower than old ppl F*%#!!! I haven't added any new or weird software or hardware to it so I have ruled that out. Can anyone come up with something for me to go on here please???Thank You;
Jennifer

Try turning your virtual memory off; right click My Computer; choose advanced, settings on performance, advanced again and then change. After choosing No Paging File, go to error checking and choose automatically fix errors and scan for bad sectors. Restart, and the error checking will do the whole drive, even where the swap file was. If you still have problems, reinstall xp over the existing installation. If that doesn't do it, you may have disk problems.

Jennifer...
Also, run sfc /scannow from the command prompt. It will find any missing/corrupt system files and replace them.

Thanx for your help guys!!! I did just as you both said to do, and so far so good...lol. Bryan...it did find some corrupt and missing files, now it's fixed, thanx again. Mark...I only had one problem, I could not find where it says..."Automatically Fix Errors and Scan for Bad Sectors". I found the Error Reporting Section, but no where did I see where it says that. But I did turn off my Virtual Memory as you suggested. If that won't work without doing the other, then could you please tell me exactly where I should look? Thanx again.Jennifer

Double click My Computer; right click on the C:drive; choose properties then tools; check
now on error-checking; check off both boxes.
oh, and you can turn virtual memory back on.
good luck.

Thanx Mark...hey can you tell me how much my virtual memory should be set at? I hear several different ppl say different amounts. I'm confused...
