hi,
i have a machine that is in a domain. it can ping the dns but not the router. its not a dns problem cause i tried nslookup and resolved names internally and externally both by ip and name.
i have tried assigning a static ip as well as dynamic ip but still cant connect to internet. have checked internet connections in internet options > connections. everything is correct. we do not use a proxy. any suggestions? i had sp2 installed. tried uninstalling that but that didnt help
thanks in advance

sounds like dns is local. Are you forwarding to your isp's dns server?

hi,
thanks for the responses. the dns is forwarding to isp's dns - i am able to perform forward and reverse resolutions using nslookup from teh machine. tracert - it fails at first hop - cant get to 192.168.0.1
it can ping all the other machines on the LAN other than the router. thats whats so funny.
any ideas??

Try powercycling.. when in doubt, power-cycle. It'll flush the bridging tables of the router/s and any other device on the network.
1-shut down all computers
2-unplug power to router/s and modem/etc..
3-wait 2 full minutes
4-boot up devices as they come in from the internet.. ie: for a cable network,, the cable modem first, then the router/s, then turn on the computers. Works wonders, and that bridging table can do some odd things.
