An update via the Software Distribution Service 2.0 occurred on my pc last week and now I can only access secured sites -- no http or email via my ISP. The same problem occurred on my laptop and I was able to do a system restore to correct the issue and stop the automatic updates. I tried a system restore on my pc but it will not work. Any ideas short of reinstalling XP? Thanks!

This info is for you if you use a router: Try connecting directly to your modem. If you can access pages fine by directly connecting to your modem, then you need to restore your router to its original default settings and configure it. SDS is a service of Windows update. I've updated all workstations on the network with no adverse consequences. Also there is no report of the most recent updates that turned sour on users machine. Having said that I think the problem lies with the desktop itself. i_XpUser
