Hi,
I did the Partitioning of the Hard disk and now I would like to format the drive c, I have created only one partition. but when i write camand format c: it give me error
"invalid drive, or format not supported"
can any one tell me what is a problem, thanks in advance.regards

what tool did you use to partition the drive? What version of format are you using?
BTW the command would be format c: /s or you won't install system boot files.

You may let "Windows XP setup" partition and format since you mention using only one partition.Start the setup from a WinXP cdrom boot or with the boot diskettes and follow on screen instructions.Good luck.

thanks for your replies, actually I did partioning with fdisk and I created Fat 32 partion and it gives me the error which I wrote in my first posting.
I again created the partion but not Fat 32 and used format /x c: command it worked and then i try to run the winnt.exe file from I386 folder and it then setup try to copy the files on my c drive but in the middle it stop and stop doing any thing.
Then I try simply copy the whole I386 folder to C: but it starts and then copy some files and then stop.
I think I have some problem in my Hard Disk what do you guys think? I don not have checkdisk to check the HD or mark the bad sector.
Could you please tell me how can I do this by using DOS.regards

couple of misunderstanding that need to b e clarified.
Fdisk creates partition but not the file system [fat16/32/ntfs]
Format creates the file systemPoint here is you didn't create a fat32 file system until you formatted.
2nd point is if you are booting off a floppy format c: /x [proper syntax] there is no access to disable and the /x was ignored.Last but not least what you describe with the copy files to the drive stopping is usually not a hard drive issue but a RAM issue.
Have you altered your memory recently?
And why aren't you installing normally by booting the xp cd via the bios and letting setup do all the partition/format and install?
