An empty folder that takes up 1gb. Sounds like a corrupted drive. Run chkdsk.

1. What is the name of the folder and its location?
2. What exactly happened when you tried the suggestions given in post #1?

If all else fails, download Puppy Linux Live CD (create CD from ISO download). Linux will then boot and run from the CD without affecting your XP installation in any way. You can then find the file and delete it.
You will need to ensure that the CD boots before your 'C' drive, which can be changed in BIOS (temporarily or permanently) if necessary.
