Can not create dial up connection

Hello, I hope someone can help. I am unable to create a dial up connection for my Walmart connect software. It searches for a connection (such as a Modem) but can not establish a dial up connection. Devise manager reports modem is working properly and is enabled and diagnostics quires the modem OK. There are no yellow explanation marks anywhere. Hyper terminal reports a TAPI error 80000048. I have replaced the modem with a working one with the same results. Network connections shows a WAN local area connection and a broadcom 440 10/100 and both are disabled. Thanks Joe

Have you tried setting the connection manually using the XP's "connection wizard"?
It's really easy, it takes you through the setup step by step.
Sometimes those setup disks supplied by the ISP don't work well at all.

Try going into device manager and "removing" the modem, then shut down, open up the box and move the modem to a different PCI slot and then close up and reboot.
Let XP find the modem and reload the drivers. Sometimes, especially with modems, the PCI slot makes a difference.
Post back with you progress and I'll try and check as often as I can today.

Musky, Thanks I did as you suggested with no joy. This is a friends Dell, he got a bunch of Trojans, I ran AVG and got most of them but still got the "blue screen" so I reinstalled XP (the upgrade option) and now when I install Walmarts software It can't create a dial up conection. joe

Summary: Problem solved! I installed Service Pack 1 to check if it would fix it and it did! I can now create and use Dial-Up connections. I guess SP1 overwrote some damaged or missing system files. Thanks the ...
