Comment:

I uninstalled WinAmp. It asked me to reboot. So I did and now I come to a black screen with a blinking cursor.

I try booting up and hitting F8 to get to safe mode and can not get into that.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Try booting with your xp cd and at the prompt, try last known config or safe mode.

If you get in, try a restore or go to msconfig and turn off the startup programs that relate to winamp.

Let us know how it turns out.

Here is the kicker.

I have no XP CD, only a restore CD.

At the blinking cursor, try a warm reboot (CTL+ALT+DEL) and f8 immediately. That might work...kinda hard to see it from here.

Or borrow an xp cd to try the previous sugggestion.

Or try the restore disk, do you get a repair option? Can you f8 there?

You can hook your hd as a slave on another xp pc and run a repair clear the winamp.ini file from the winamp folder/delete the winamp folder.
