XPuser, I don't see a listing of Internet Explorer in the locations you and MS mentioned: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions.
I have the following listed in the Microsoft location:
Conferencing
Messenger
Netlogon
SystemCertificates
Windows
WindowsNT
and that's it. no mention of IE.
is it possible that IE's SP2 got rid of this location of keys? I don't have a machine with IE sp1 anywhere to check. but that would sure seem a little odd for that to be the case.
even though the article you directed me to in the link above states the following: "NoBrowserClose: Turns off Close button, located in the upper right corner of the window or dialog box. This registry value also turns off the Close command on the File menu."
that is exactly what I am after. :(
and for anyone who may be still following this thread, for simple clarification of what I am looking to do here ya go:
I want to remove the TITLE BAR. you know, the blue (windows default color anyway) title bar that contains the windows standard three buttons in the upper right corner - minimize, maximize and exit.
The uppermost right corner is the red square (in teletubby mode of XP defaults) and that is the exit button. that button resides in what is known as the TITLE BAR. the title bar exists in every known Windows based program with very little exception.
and THAT is what I want to make invisible and inaccessible to students standing at these machines that are not and will not be running in "kiosk" mode.
I hope this helps with the goal.
as always, thanks to anyone who posts helpful info. :)
Chuck
