I accidentally deleted the wrong .dll files while getting rid of a trojan virus. Can I recover them somehow?
I think they were csc, something like that.
Will I have to reinstall windows?

seeing you don't know if you have the home or pro version, it may be hard to help you

You could try searching for the .dll file using Softperfect File Recovery program. Do a Google search and you should easily find it.
It's a tiny stand-alone program that doesn't need to be directly installed to use. Just download and run it... and in the search window enter ".dll" (without quotation marks, of course) and it should be able to locate the most-recently deleted .dll files.

Thanks guys.
I've just been loaned this computer, the windows version is German but, I think it's home.
I tried the file recovery prog but, it couldn't find the file.
ASnd the bin was emptied to get rid of the actual nasty file I was meant to get rid of.
Is there any other way?
And how difficult a process is it too reinstall windows?
Oh if I know exactly what file it is would I be able to install it by itself?
sorry for the inane questions, I'm not that good with these damn modern day machines with flashing lights and crazy sounds.

you could try a repair install:

Go to Run on the Start Menu and type in:
sfc /scannow then click OK
Make sure to have your XP CD handy.

I was wondering if someone might mention sfc/scanow.
But don't you have to use the comand prompt to run it on xp?The limits of my language are the limits of my world.

Yes, if you know exactly what .dll file(s) were deleted, it's possible for you to either extract them from an XP cd, or, possibly find an available download from one of many websites that offer misc. .dll files for people in need of them (use Google to find such sites by entering the name of the file you're looking for).
When you first boot your system, does Windows inform you of the missing .dll file(s)?

Hi Sarah C.
I'm not sure, I have a German version and I can't read German very well. Something comes up but I'm not sure what it's saying.I was loaned it very recently by a friend of my girl. There's nothing to lose so I figure I'll just reinstall Windows, according to the anti virus software I'm crawling with trojans, gen, AD etc..
how difficult is it too install if you're useless with comps?

The wonderful thing about XP is that it literally installs itself, leaving you free to do other things during the re-installation process. After inserting the disc, just select the appropriate options from the list and it'll walk you through.
Just be sure that you have a full version of XP Home or Pro (German?) and its appropriate installation key, and not a typical "Upgrade" version. It's also useful to make sure you have the required drivers that may be needed for any hardware in which the generic XP drivers fail to suffice (video card, audio, etc.)
