You are not supposed to install the home edition of XP on more than one PC, although you can do so if their hardware configurations are the same. If not, you have to buy two XPs. However, if you buy the professional edition of XP, you can install it on both PCs.

Just call microsoft and say your computer busted and you had to change the motherboard and if you want say you lost the cd case with the product key and I need a new one. Remember you don't have to do this but this is all you can do unless you get a crack buy will only work for 180 days. If you don't want to do either of these options you will have to buy another copy of xp. My friend did that but I have win me and love it. They should give you a new product key but don't tell them you have 2 computers.

If you want it nice and simple, get windows XP corporate final version, theres no activation, no crack, and you can download updates from the Windows Upadate site, just like the original version.
And of course you can install it on as many computers as you like.

xp is a great os. you'll get years of use out of it. pay the money and get the second license. in spite of what anyone might think of microsoft they're entitled to be paid for what you have. if you don't pay for the license and hack the os then you are a thief. no more, no less a criminal than any other thief.
