I want to free more space on my hard disk. I am running Windows XP professional, and sure I can use the Disk Cleanup wizard. But I know that there are much more files that Disk Cleanup doesn't count but can be safely deleted. An example is the .GID files which are generated after using the .HLP files. These files can get pretty big and accumulate in the system, so I delete them as well.
If anyone knows what other files or folder contents can be safely deleted without affecting system functionality then please mention them here, so that we can all free more space in our hard disks.
Regards.

Norton ANYTHING sucks IMHO
With the sole exception of their AV(which is top notch) their tools packages are for the most part more harm than good. You would almost be better off randomly deleting things because it seems thats just what Norton does.
I have never had any good experiences with ANY of them

Hello:
I might have phrased it differently but have to agree with jimi on Norton products.
Before Peter Norton sold the company they had some good products. My experience now is that Norton programs cause half of the problems I'm called upon to correct in the field, if not more.
It's gotten to the point where I now refuse to provide support and offer any sort of warranty for my services unless all NOrton software has been uninstalled.
Happy New Year!

All the contents of the system32\dllcache folder can be deleted. It frees up about 450 MB of hard disk space.

TRY AATools from glocksoft.com i have used it to clean my registry and it works wonders. The other included SW works fine too i highly recommend it.
