Specs: windows xp home, 256

I have bought a laptop and want to buy a printer for it, I intend to keep the printer upstairs but will want to use the laptop downstairs as well. Will it cause problems if I keep unplugging the printer from the laptop, will it need reinstalling all the time?

No it should see it every time you plug it in. I do kind of the same thing on an XP home laptop. When I plug it in, XP sees it and I can print to it automatically.

or you could just share the printer and never unplug it
from the first machine, use it as a network printer.... but
if you want to unplug it over and over it won't hurt the
printer or your machine, unless of course you drop it
while carrying it to another locale :)
