Here's my problem:
I got a 256 mb rambus chip from a friend and he doesn't know if it is ecc or not. And as you all know you can only install a pair of rambus chips, the same size, at the same time. I need to know if I put that in with a different type of chip will it give me troubles? I don't know what to do. Plz Help. Thanks

You cannot mix ECC and non ECC but you can usually mix different brands of the same type of memory.

Sometimes you can and sometimes you can't.It varies from machine to machine as I have seen both work and not.Your best off to buy all the same right down to the Mfg however.

The onboard chips:

9 pins (or a multiple) = ECC
8 pins (or a multiple) = Non-ECC

(usually).
