Recently I plugged a USB Flash Disk in my USB port and it seemed that the pc was installing it. I got a small balloon notice in the taskbar saying, your new hardware is installed and is ready to use?
But immediately I also got another err message that "it is malfunctioning and can not work properly". When I double clicked on My Computer it was listed, as removable Drive G?with a red mark on it and it was unusable.
I have there partition that C, D and E in my pc and F is my CD Rom drive.I tested the usb drive with another pc and it worked fine there (in another pc it was listed as mass storage device and not as removable drive G).
Also in my pc the usb port is working properly, coz my web cam and scanner plugged into it is working properly.
So why I am unable to use the usb flash disk on it?, Is there any settings in BIOS that is needed to enable b4 plugging it?? or is there any registry settings that can make it work???
Thanking in advance
Dilip

Check whether the drive is meant for USB 2.0. If it is, then the USB ports on your computer must be 1.1 which would explain why it was complaining. You would simply need to install a USB 2.0 card into your PC and use one of these ports instead.
A cheap card should cost somewhere in the region of $20, I think. Over here in the UK, if you look carefully you can find it for £7.29.
But your first port of call is to check whether the USB drive is actually designed to run at the faster USB 2.0 speed. If it can work at both speeds (the slower 1.1 and the faster 2.0) then check in the Device Manager for anything with a yellow exclamation mark and post back what you find.
I hope this helps,
James

Is your memory a Kingmax? I have the same issue with Kingmax thumb drives when plugging them into the front USB slots on newer cases. The rear (motherboard)USB slots seem to work fine with the drives. Upon further investigation I discovered that the front USB wiring onto the motherboard had their + and - wires reversed. On most other drives, reverse polarity is corrected and is not an issue although with Kingmax it seems to be. Open your motherboard manual and follow the correct configuration. It should then come up OK. as for USB 2 functionality it shouldn't matter as all thumb drives are USB 1.1 backwards compatible.

Also in the services console, make sure your RPC is enabled. Removeable storage is dependant on the RPC service.
