I have a JVC camcorder and I want to transfer images from my camcorder to my pc. I've got it connected using the analog (S-Video?) plugs but I can't get my PC to recognize the device. My question is: Do I need some sort of software to do this? If so, where I can I get it? If not, then how do I get my pc to recognize this device? I've tried going to the control panel and choosing the cameras/scanners icon but there wasn't any JVC devices in the list. I have windows movie maker on my PC but it's useless without access to the camcorder.

Also, can I use the camcorder like a webcam?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

The chances are you need a driver for this device I did a search on Google: 'JVC Camcorder Drivers' and there was a number of options. I suggest you do a search and include the model.

Windows is not going to recognise a device connected through the S-Video port. If you computer didn't come with video capturing software, then I also suspect that the S-Video port on your computer is an output to a TV and not an input for capturing video. You will need to purchase a video capture card for this to work.

i suggest dazzle. Its easy and relatively cheap for its quality. It comes with some nooby software though. so if you're intrested in editing i suggest Vegas video made by the mighty sonic foundry (now owned by stupid sony :( but what you going to do)

here is a link to a cheap (but good) dazzle device

and here is a link to vegas video

hope this helps. I use a differnet dazzle importer and i love it. I also use vegas 2.0 (to cheap to upgrade)

Thanks for all of the replies. I thought that because I have windows movie maker installed on my PC that windows would recognize a device connected to the S-Video plug. I will try looking for a driver and take it from there. I have vegas installed on my PC so hopefully I'll finally get a chance to use it. Thanks again
