Hi,
Installed winxp system for long distance relative with USR modem that supports call waiting. I did not know she used this feature so did not install any additional software as XP recognized modem OK. But now upon my arrival back home, I find that she did use this feature. Is it safe to reinstall the software from the USR connections software disk that came with modem before xp was released? I am afraid to tell her to do so long distance, as I am afraid that perhaps it will try to install a modem driver that will conflict with one xp already installed or the call waiting software itself will not work with xp. Anybody have an experience in this or can recommend a good free/cheap program that will do the call waiting. I do not want the call forwarding feature which will take a message and relay it to your pc but just the call waiting aspect where a message pops up saying you are receiving a call, do you wish to receive it or reject it. Thanks for any help.

XP will only install a 'basic' feature set modem driver to get it up and running. To enable the full potential of the modem u will need to install the correct driver.
If the modem is pre XP, then ur'll have to search for an updated driver on the manufacturers' website or via www.driverguide.com
If the modem disk includes a Win2000 driver, it *may* just work - try 'Updating' the driver via Device Manager (XP will just complain if it isn't compatible).
Good Luck
