Hey all, I recently requested an IP change from my cable company and received the following:
With regards to changing your IP address, we must apologise but this is not a process we follow. Your IP address is assigned dynamically with a lease period of 24 hours although, due to the way DHCP works you may retain an IP address for longer than this.
It may be possible for you to force a change yourself by either :a) changing the MAC address of the interface connected to your CM. With a PC this would usually be done by changing the Network Interface Card (Ethernet) or switching to a USB connection.
b) clearing the DHCP cache. Generally speaking your PC, when switched on, will always re-request the last assigned IP if it's still available. Depending on your version of Windows, it may be possible to clear the DHCP Cache to obtain a new IP address.
Can any of you bright sparks give me more info on a and b?Thanks a lot.

hi, for a, basically it means changing ur connection hardware, eg using a usb adsl modem or installed an new ethernet card, which you wont want to do. Your best bet is option B clearing the cache. As far as i know this is a DOS command, which can be simply found by search google, by typing DHCP Cache clear. Do that, and with any luck u should be able to obtain a new IP, and since ur running XP pro , this shouldnt be a problem.
