hey all, i was wondering if anyone could help me out with something. i want to write a little program that runs in a dos box that takes a number and multiplies it by another number. anyone give me any ideas on how to do this? i just want something like this

Enter Number : X
z = X multiplied by 2 plus Y
Here is your number : Z

where X Y and Z = a number.

help?

those pages wont load... :( what would the syntax be for a user to enter a number then the program uses it later in the program? in basic i know what it would be to write this program.

Input "Enter number"; $code
$output = $code * 2 + 58789847
Print "heres your number "; $output

thats the code i, think that would work. lol.

shoot, i shoulda said this in the other post, but , is there by any chance i can write a program in BASIC that could be made into a .exe file and run on any computer?

The linked pages are for standalone DOS - the XP prompt may (or may not) be problematic

Sounds like someone's doing homework.

Anyway, it's not that hard to get info. For a start, you could go on IRC, join #C++ on EFnet and ask for some good literature. That's what I did and I ended up with a great eBook (free at that) called "Thinking in C++" by Bruce Eckel. It's 16 chapters and I'm still not done reading it, but it's VERY informative.

I'd suggest either getting help from your teacher or dropping the programming class for something that is more attuned to your skills.

im not taking a programming class. i just want to write a small program for me here at my house. thats all. thanks for the replies.
