Try any local computer store like Summit Direct or Tiger Direct

First off to get doom3 to work on a system that only supports agp 2x/4x without problems is going to be something in its own right. This game WAS NOT MEANT to be played on anything less that 8X agp or better.

The best bet here would be to post what system specs you have and mobo and see what would be best.

ok, he has an AMD Athlon 1800+, SiS Mobo (unsure of the model number) 512MB of SD-Ram PC-133, a 40GB HDD 7200RPM, and right now a Radeon 7000. i dont know the model of the mobo, but the onboard sound it has is SiS 7012. anyone maybe knows what model that is maybe could post? i also have a SiS board in my own computer but i have a SiS 7016 sound card and the mobo model is SiS 810 L.

I would save a bit more and first update the mobo to a newer board that can handle the newer graphics cards.

Just buying a graphics card in hopes of being able to play a game kind of sucks.

While the 1800xp amd cpu is quite a capable chip to peak out to about 2.0 instead of the 1.54 that it is stock a new board would atleast give you a better chance of playing the games that you want to play.

There is some lowend amd64 combos with built in graphics that will allow you to play Doom games in standard mode. for around a $100US. You can use the pc2100 memory in there also although pc 2700/3200 would be a lot better.

I know that you said no online buying and all that but take a look and see other avenues.

I just think that spending that much for a graphics card that might not be what it takes to begin with is kind of nuts.

see unfotuneatly my brother wont care about the computer in a few days, hes weird that way. he spends all kinds of money on the computer, then plays the game for a few hour or maybe a day, then gets tired or bored of it, and goes to do something else. hes only 12, so with the attention span of a ferret, im surprised he even uses a computer. i dont really care what he does to be honest, but im thinkin of going with an ATi radeon 9550 SE 256mb for $76.00 at yesplay.com. its a fairly close store to my house, so if it doesnt work ill just take it back and tell him to save his money to buy a new mobo and vid card. hes also using fairly old pc133 sdram. i am too, but i dont care , my comp runs good enough. but anyway, ill get that card and see how it does. if not , i might take the card lol. anyway, thanks again guys.

Laptop :DELL Inspiron 7000, ATi Rage Pro 8MB, PII 400Mhz, 20gb HDD, 15'' display.
Desktop : AMD Athlon 1800+, 640MB SD-RAM, 80GB HDD, ATi Radeon 9200 SE 128MB.
