i am using a lite-on dvdrw shw-160p6s burner.
what is the best speed to burn a movie on a sony 4.7GB dvd-r. when i burn a movie at max speed the quality isn't to good.what is the best burning speed for the best quality?

Slower is usually better. If you record too fast, bits could be dropped which could reduce the quality.

But it's not going to improve the quality of the original file, if that's what you're thinking.

I agree, slow normally has a greater chance of working in all devices.

how slow are yall talking about? x2 x4 ??
the original movie file itself plays great on pc.but when i burn and play in dvd player(i have 3. emerson ,sony ,magnovox)its drags a little and it looks like a bunch of colored blocks at times.

I don't think anyone can give you a specific speed. It depends on the quality of the recorder and the media used. You will just have to experiment. Note that it will vary between CD-Rs and CD-RWs.

the burner and media are very important to determine the speed needed to burn properly.

Sometimes it is just best to let the burning software determine the corect speed. If you still think it is too fast, reduce it a bit.

I use some mediocre "off the shelf" brands and reduce it down to about 2/3's the max burning speed.
