I was burning a CD the other day and it went off without
problem. As soon as that CD finished burning, I put in
another CD to burn another disc. When I tried to burn the second disc, the drive would spin
up...but never write.Nero gives a very non-descript error message that just
says the disc didn't burn.Simulations work...burning doesn't.
This, mind you, happened on my OLD computer which
was an athlon 1700 with 256 mb of ram.I upgraded my computer to an Athlon 64 2600+ and
bumped my ram up to one gig. Also replaced the
motherboard. XP was reinstalled to accomodate the new
hardware.Essentially new computer...same problem. I should also
add that I just purchased a new DVD burner yesterday and
still have the problem. The drive reads discs which is great and all, but I can't do
any backups of any kind...which isn't so great.

I forgot to mention that neither Nero 7 nor the software
that came with the drive will work to burn discs.

i assuming your using a branded blank-CD not Generic one..
Do you try other blank CD or other brand? i hope you did this first before you do changing the drives.

Burner installed on eide cable 2, master port, jumpered as master? No other hardware on cable for now.

Thanks for the replies.
The drive is jumpered as the master drive. When I upgraded my computer, I put a new IDE ribbon on IDE channel 2.
Doesn't matter what brand or kind of disc I put in...it still doesn't work.
Thanks

different brands of Blank CD are not just the same you might have a possible compatibility issue on there,
anyway i think you're sure about this..that there is no compatibility issue on the blank disk..so lets move on..

Hi there
============================================
Since the Burner can read CDs you may right click your CD-Burner in My Computer, Properties, Recording Tab and see if Enable CD recording on this drive is checked.
Peter

I've had the same problem for a while now, and am still searching for a solution. I'm currently using a work-around.
I found that Alcohol 120% will still burn image files, so I use WinISO to create an image (with the files that I wish to burn), then burn the image with Alcohol (hic).Note: Burning images from Nero doesn't seem to work. It burns to 8%, then just hangs (as it does when trying to burn anything).
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

I tried it with my memorex discs at all different speeds...didn't work even though they simulate the burn just fine.
Tried it with the verbatim that came with my burner and it went off without a hitch, which is weird because I've never used anything but Memorex media.
The difference in media actually makes me wonder if the media isn't the problem.
