Built in card reader not working.

OS: XP SP3
CPU/Ram: P4 3.4GHz/1.5Gb ram
Product: Advent 9102

I have a built in card reader on my Pc. It's suddenly stopped working, and all the icons for the different card slots have disappeared from 'My Computer'. I ran system restore, but no difference. I reinstalled the software from the PC applications backup software, but no difference.
Any ideas?

Try this

Start
* Contol Panel
* Performance and Maintenance
* Administrative Tools
* Services
* Smart Card( check if its active and started manually)
* If not click twice and start it ,then click ok.
* Reboot your computer (I shut it down holding the main button in for a few sec)

If thats ok, remove the cables from the motherboard. Boot the pc, shutdown, reconnect the cables & reboot.

This keeps on happening on my Scaleo T.

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

If still no joy with the above suggestion, try remove and reinstall all USB controllers.

Thanks very much for your helpful and speedy replies. I followed Clive's suggestion and the problem is resolved! Seems a bit weird why it happenned, and the solution also, but all seems OK now!
