Hi. Whenever I start my outlook express, msn messenger starts with it, and I have to wait sometime until it initialises. I'm not using the messenger and I was wondering if anybody knows how to makie it stop from starting with the o.e., or perhaps get rid of it for good.
The auto-update feature also gives me some headache, as it buggs me every two days or so. I apreciate being up to date, but this is too much! Anybody know how to configure the manager? Thanks a lot! :)

Which version of messenger are you using...

To remove any version other than version 5...

Copy and paste the following command into the Run dialog box...

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

If you want to keep it on your system and just stop it from starting when you open OE...do the following...

Start/Run/Regedit...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express. Value Name: Hide Messenger, Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value), Value Data: (2 = remove messenger). Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called 'Hide Messenger' and set the value to 2...

If you are using version 5...you can remove it from the add/remove applet of the control panel...

As far as the Auto-update (assuming that you are speaking of the XP auto-update)feature goes...you can disable this feature all together from the services dialog box...

Or just switch it off withing the system applet of the control panel...

Regards...
