Greetings All,
I am using TNT2 32MB video card on my MSI-6398E P4 2.0GHZ motherboard with 512MB DDR, in fact I have bben using the same card a little over a year now even before I upgraded my system.
My OS is windows XP Pro, and it was doing fine with that. However for the last couple of months, first my monitor shuts itself off, and then sometimes my system follows that. But sometimes, I need to turn the system off myself.
I would like you to know that:
My OS is up to date,I have downloaded the latest detonater XP driver from NVIDIA's web site, and
Have no heat issues, because I monitor the temperature and use extra fans to cool inside the case. The error messages I am having are mostly either a reported bugcheck (when my system shuts itself down) or a nv4 driver error. Followings are the examples of save dump information:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x100000ea (0x8195ec30, 0x81e04f38, 0x81f95bf0, 0x00000001).
A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini081002-01.dmp.
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x100000ea (0x81cc0708, 0x81cd0008, 0x81f74bc8, 0x00000001).
A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini081502-01.dmp.The driver nv4_disp for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.
The problem is getting more frustrating over time. I am in the middle of browsing or doing some work, playing a game or watching a movie, and then I need to reboot my computer.I have done some research and it looks like NVIDIA drivers have this infinite loop issue with windows XP, and no solutions though.
Any solution or information about the problem will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

Use the drivers provided by MS .I have that card and the MS drivers always work. Uninstall the nvidia drivers and run windows update and it will offer the latest drivers. I think they are 29.42

you could also turn off the auto restart when a program has a problem, and check your monitor settings, especially the refresh rates
