OS: Windows XP Professional
CPU/Ram: P4 2.26GHz/1GB RDRAM
Comment:

-----------
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Buffer overrun detected!

Program: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
-----------

I've been receiving the above error when I open a folder containing a lot of jpegs (usually over 100), click Edit, and Select All.

What could be causing this problem and how can I correct it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, not recently (this just started around a week ago). I've also scanned my system for viruses, trojans, spyware, etc. and everything came up clean.

I'd say run the maintenance programs, chkdsk, defrag and disk cleanup.

Have you always had IGB memory?

I've tried the maintenance programs but unfortunately they had no effect.

I used to have 512MB of RAM, I added another 512MB almost a year ago. This error just recently started, so I don't think the additional RAM has anything to do with it. Maybe there's a problem with the Visual C++ runtime files?

Could be or could be a version conflict too, you can try to update your runtime libraries and see if that works.

One thing that turned with that error was vulnerability related, you can try an online security scan in addition to your AV program.

How would I go about updating my runtime library?

I've tried many scans, no malware detected.

I received the same error message after installation of couple programs, ad-aware and CD-WAV and MP3 Ripper 1.31 by Orange Audio. The same error message appeared when I tried to use XP's program associated with Windows Explorer.

I can't use My Computer, My Network Places, My Documents, Control Panel, Internet Explorer, etc.

What should I do to solve this problem?

I have already tried updates from microsoft and upgrade Windows Professional (reinstallation of windows files.)

What can I do?????

Thank you in advance.

Lachana

Update latest Windows patches (Because IE dont start up, you will have to download them unto CD or network drive and run them one by one from there). It solved the problem I experienced with a Windows 2000 machine
