I recently decided to merge two partitions on my hard drive. I first installed BootMagic, but couldn't seem to do what I needed with that so I installed PartitionMagic. I opened the progra m and did what I needed to do, then restarted my computer. Now when I start up I get a message that looks like this:
-.||||
Error finding BTMAGIC.IMG
Run BootMagic install
Press a key
(I press a key)
PT invalid_I can't access windows to uninstall bootmagic, I am not too computer savvy...is there anyone who can explain step by step what I should do?

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately I have no windows cd...that was lost long ago, and no boot magic or partition magic cds as they are free trials.
I wonder if I'm just out of luck?

... sounds like you make boo boo.
... what sort of mess have you left yourself with?

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to help :( I cannot access Windows and have no CD to insert at start up, and my computer does not have a floppy drive.
My only options before I get the error message are to hit f2 for setup or f12 for boot menu. I tried every option on the boot menu and continue to get the error message. I suppose my last option is to somehow obtain a BootMagic rescue disk...but that seems impossible as I have spent over an hour searching the internet for one.
Sorry if I sound completely computer illiterate...I really am, but the PartitionMagic program seemed very simple and I mistakenly did not forsee any issues.

Recommended use of mbrfix to run Windows again:
Create any bootable floppy disk/diskette A: (even with older Windows systems)
Run MbrFix to see the current list of partitions: mbrfix /drive 0 listpartitions
Run MbrFix in the following way: mbrfix /drive 0 fixmbr
If you have more than 1 physicial hard disk (hard drive), you have to use proper number for your disk. E.g. change 0 to sdifferent number (1, 2 etc.)

ktbcca: I have no CD to insert at start up
One cannot drive nails without a hammer. Either get a WinXP CD, or pay a professional who does.

I suggest that you find a friend with a CD writer to make you a boot-up CD with DOS P/magic on it, (it'll work with win98 dos)
... or do as "Razor2.3" says
... even non-professionals can do it!

After much grief, i was able to fix this bootmagic error message. the master boot recocrd, mbr, contained some remnant files from partitionmagic/bootmagic. creating this madness! here's how to fix it.
1 make a backup of files!
2 boot your pc from a windows 98 or xp cd
3 choose recovery mode
4 choose the drive to repair, usually defaults to c:
5 at the prompt, type: fixmbr
6 remove the cd and rebootnow, say hasta la vista bebe bootmagic error!
if you still have problems, or need to learn how to fix this issue without the windows cd's, i could copy and paste the full instructions from samantec.
so, go enjoy life now!
