What is "BT?"

What browser are you using? Have you restore the defaults on the browser?

"BT is UK Broadband ISP, right?". That nearly brought tears to my eyes LOL.

BT isn't just an ISP, it is THE primary phone company for the UK. Its origins go way back to the days of wet string, when the General Post Office ran both postal and telecoms. It's about the nearest thing to a giant that we have in the UK and it has its fingers in many international pies.

I am a broadband engineer working for BT.

BT does not block access to https sites such as ebay and googlemail.

It will be a setting on your pc. Reset your Home-Hub to make sure there are no firewall settings on it.

If you have downloaded Norton Antivirus, check the firewall settings for it.

If all else fails, clear all the cookies like mavis007 said and then un-install ALL the BT software from add/remove programs. This will remove all the BT/Yahoo bloatware etc. All it does is slow pc's down.

Unknown to most BT customers that they do not need to use BT/Yahoo software to log onto the internet. If you are connected with usb/wireless/ethernet to your home-hub, make sure the connection is setup to automatically pick up Ip/DNS settings. Open your browser and you are ready to go.

Set your homepage to www.bt.yahoo.com to pick up your emails. but you don't need to login to go online.

EDIT-
If you only have 168MB RAM - you really should un-install all the BT/Yahoo software AND Norton

Regards
D

PS - feel free to remove norton and install AVG Antivirus. BT advises engineers to install AVG when the pc spec is low, but pretty much all the engineers prefer AVG.

Try logging in on the US site.
Change your password (write it onto a sticky note)and then try the UK site.

Ebay has been doing some updating again....cool!

hi all
thanks for your posts but to no avail.
in reverse order:-
tried logging into ebay us site but screen just flashes back.
d85kennedy - i only have dialup at the moment - broadband scheduled for next week - bt had to close our old broadband connection to setup the new broadband - i notice my ewire hub has no broadband light anymore (previously the broadband light was permanently on even though our broadband internet was off) maybe this is the problem? something at the exchange?
mavis007 - reset ie7 (deleted and reinstalled ie) still no joy.
my ebay customers are an anxious bunch so if i don't get this fixed by midnight thursday, i'm gonna get negative feedback :-(
please help and post some solutions
thanks

Danny,

You said you have an ewire hub, are you a business broadband user? Do you have a "BT Home Hub" like this http://www.productsandservices.bt.c...

It might be the case that since you are only on dial-up, the https connection to ebay might be timing out for security reasons?? Anyone else concur?

If Openreach (the part of BT who deal with all the physical telephone lines) have disconnected you telephone line they will also have removed any broadband equipment at the exchange. As the are in the process of re-connecting you, there will be no broadband enabled on the line until the work order is though. The broadband light on the hub will not stay constant until this is conmplete. If it is flashing, it is looking to establish a broadband connection.

You said "(previously the broadband light was permanently on even though our broadband internet was off)"

Did you check to see if your broadband was still on even although you had been told you were cut off. I don't see any reason for the broadband light to stay on, whenever you disconnect a home hub from the telephone socket the broadband light always goes out.
