Hi,
I am trying to install Win XP Home edition on my computer. While the files are being loaded for the install, the BSOD appears with the error message "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". Now, I couldn't really do anything that the computer told me to do within the message, because I don't have an OS on it. I tried installing without the sound card and NIC, I tried reformatted my drive, and I even checked the jumper settings on my hard drives and CD-ROMs. I looked on the web for other possible solutions, and what I found was that I should try "flashing" my BIOS, or testing my RAM.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ian

i had the same bsod before but it was when burning a cd . try turning off the shadowing for the video in the bios...it fixed my prob.

I suggest you test the ram too, or try a manual XP installation by copying the installation files to your hard drive and then run the installation from there.

To test your ram download Memtest86 from
http://www.memtest86.com/
insert a blank formatted floppy and run the downloaded exe. it will create a bootdisk that contains the ram testing prog. then simply shutdown and boot up using the floppy.Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach him to fish and you feed him for life.

That is usually a memory problem. If you have 2 sticks of memory remove one and try it. If no go, swap them. XP is very touchy about memory.

Thank you all for the suggestions, but I'm still having problems :\
I was able to install XP by turning off the BIOS caching options... as expected, the installation was slow, and I left it running over night. After the installation, I rebooted and turned the BIOS caching options back on... XP booted up fine, but about 10 minutes later, my computer restarted unexpectedly. Upon the unexpected reboot, I got the "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" message again... so I rebooted, turned off BIOS caching, and it ran fine, but very slow. I tried the memory diagnostic test, I got 0 errors, so it's not the RAM (I have only one stick btw). I'm not sure what else it could be... someone I know said it could be a problem with the power supply.
