Help! Everytime I try booting up my computer, it gives me the blue screen of death. I tried booting from a recovery disk (gateway) but it didn't work and everytime I try to boot up normally OR even in safe mode, my computer freezes up. Could it be a hardware or motherboard problem? This problem just happened recently and I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with adware/(maybe virus?).

Thanks in advance
Jonathan

I just got home from school and tried to boot up my computer when this happened. My mom was using it in the morning (3 hours prior)and said it was working fine. I suspect its a hardware issue? I'll see if i can find that error message.

A Windows login problem usually means some system files are messed up.

Boot up with a Windows XP operating system CD, go to the recovery console and type chkdsk /r at the "C:\windows" prompt.

It may take some time to run, but should help.

What could have possibly caused this problem? I don't remember changing any winlogon features or any vital system processes recently...

When i try booting from my gateway XP recovery cd, it gives me the BSOD and that error message I posted earlier. Basically I can't start up normally (not even in safe mode) or from a cd. Is there a way to get a command prompt going during the bootup process? (a FXX key maybe?)

I'm not sure what your mother was doing but what ever she did, it cause one of the sys file to move or changes made to it. The C stand for the core of the OS.

Either go w/musky or if you want to get some detail, go w/xpuser4real.
