I have a P4 2.4GHZ W/ HT pc and trying to move the HD to a AMD xp 2600 pc but i get a BOSD 0x0000007B on boot before I even see the xp logo. I tried replacing the registry with the one in window\repair folder as well and changing Ntoskrnl.exe to the signgle cpu version form the multi cpu verison. Also change the Hal.dll to the right one. Anyone have any other ideas?

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE is almost invariably caused because Windows XP does not have an appropriate driver available for the hard disc controller in your machine. It performs the initial copy operation in DOS mode, but then it restarts and attempts to start up in full-on XP mode, and without a driver it cannot find the boot disc--hence the error.

The solution is to find out what the hard disc controller in your PC actually is, download a driver for it, put it on a floppy, and then press F6 near the beginning of Win2K setup (when it asks you if you want to specify any additional hard disc controllers) and install the driver.

This issue has been addressed many times in this forum. You are trying to install A HD with XP to another machine which has different hardware setup etc. Gets very old fast having to repeat over and over something which has been explained many times over and over again AD NASEUM Look in the archieves.

best of luck Frank :

so are you saying that it is not possible to just move the a HD from one pc to anther that has different hardware with out a reinstall of windows or a repair install? There must be anther way by just changing some other system files like ini's or some other system files that i have not changed. I had to change Hal.dll to the right one there maybe other files too.
