I currently run a 1Mb Cable internet connection, but before I upgraded I had a 512k connection and was usually reaching download speeds of up to 70k/s, over 10x faster than your current setup!
Hope this helps!

I use DSL. Download rates vary depending on the site you're downloading from. Most of the time, however, 150kb/s is obtainable. 160k seems to be my sustainable maximum when doing multiple downloads.
