not sure whare to put this so i will put it here Im on dialup just now with freeserve but been with a few companies i usually never install isp software just add the telephone num etc manually as most isp software is full of //////// anyway my question is can you do this with broadband or do you have to install the software...............

In most cases , you don't have to install the software. I take it you're now on dialup but are thinking of moving to broadband. If you do, don't overdo it. Just install the hardware -- modem -- plug in, and see what happens. It should work without further ado. You don't have to do any entering of numbers, etc. as long as your ISP has setup your account properly.

with adsl if you get a desent modem/router all the settings are entered into the modem directly, thats with an ethernet modem ...usb i think is controlled through the software...
