Recently, apparently after changes made by AOL, when I turn the computer on the broadband connection is dissconnected. I have to reconnect then everything works fine until the computer is turned off when the broadband is dissconnected. I've tried AOL and got now where.

What makes you say that AOL made changes? Did you upgrade to another version? What version are you using? Who is your ISP? Do you have a modem and a router?

Up to a fortnight ago when ever I signed on I would see 'looking for AOL via DSL' now it is 'looking via TCP/IP'. When I ask it to seach for a modem it just comes up with a blank. I haven't made any changes so in my innocence I assumed it was AOL.

What is a router? I have a BT Voyager 100 USB ADSL modem.

I have subsequently upgraded to AOL9 VR which has made no difference.

As I spoke of contacting AOL I assumed it would be understood that this was my ISP

People who have AOL for broadband usually have another ISP as their provider. I didn't know that AOL provides their own DSL service. Are you sure that your DSL connection is not provided by you local telco?

When are you getting that error message? If you open Internet Explorer, can you surf the net at all? Are you posting here using the same PC? If you don't have any connection to the net at all, then your network card may be the problem.

Not explaining this very well am I?

The DSL connection is provided by British Telecom (BT).

When I switch on the computer I have to go into Control Panel - Network Connections, where I find the Broadband is dissconnected, Right click on this, click connect, enter password and it is connected. I can then use AOL as normal.

Ok, that's what I wanted to know. So, the problem is that there is no connection at boot time. That's why AOL can't find the connection.

Reboot the PC, go to the network connections again in the control panel. Don't tell it to connect yet. I don't know if you are going to see an icon marked LAN connection. Whatever you see, right click on it and if you see a repair option in the drop down menu, try it.

If not, you may have to reinstall that modem or upgrade the modem.

There are the instructions for that modem and AOL.

If nothing works, call BT tech support.

Sounds like you are using PPPoE connection to BT. Have you confirmed on BT's support page that your settings are correct?

Go to bt's site and check the settings are correct for your service. Call the support folks to clarify if you're not sure.
